Summer is finally here, and if you’re anything like me you’ve had a summer style moodboard and have been planning your summer style vibe since January. While the current pandemic has put a damper on a lot of my summer plans, it WON’T stop me from planning cute outfits.
And what’s a summer wardrobe without a collection of the essentials? I love a mix of cute and fun shoe styles to mix and match with different outfits for the summer – dresses, skirts, swimsuits, ripped denim shorts – you name it.
One shoe you will never find me wearing? FLIP FLOPS. I cannot STAND flip-flops. Feet gross me out and I hate the way they look in flip-flops. I have not worn a flip-flop since I was in high school and vow to never wear them again. Luckily there’s plenty of cute, lightweight sandals that are perfect for the pool and beach that aren’t flip flops! Do you feel the same way?!

MY TOP PICKS FOR SUMMER SHOE STYLES
A classic sneaker
I recently purchased the Converse Chuck 70s and I’m in love! They are soooo comfy and make any outfit more playful. I love to pair them with a super flirty or girly dress for a casual, fun twist. The classic black color matches with any and everything.
A fun, 90s inspired strappy sandal
When I came across these sandals during my memorial day shopping spree, I instantly added to cart. I am actually obsessed with these – the tortoiseshell strap, the round wooden block heel, the square toe – need I go on? These are so perfect and they look so cute on, I cannot recommend enough! You need these.
A chunky, block-heeled sandal
I feel like a chunky block heel is a shoe style essential in any closet, but especially summer. Perfect for any occasion, but works especially well for a nicer event where you want to feel a little more dressed up. These are a pretty ivory color and will match with virtually any dress.
A bright colored-sandal for an accent
Even though I’m a huge fan of neutrals – I do spring for an occasional pop of color every now and then. Last summer I had a cute pair of fuscia mules that I wore on any good night out. I have my eye on these green sandals – how cute is that matcha color?!
Wondering how to decide what pop of color to get? Look at your other accessories and clothes and see if you can find a common color between them. My closet is mostly neutrals, but I have pops of color in blues, reds, and greens. So a green or blue shoe could work well with my closet as an accent! Get it?
A cool sneaker in a funky color
I’m a huge fan of Nike Blazers – I’m on my third pair already! I’ve also been really into anything that has a pop of lime green. This pair fits the bill. They look cute with midi skirts and dresses because of their high-top shoe styles. I love ‘em.
A beach sandal that isn’t a flip flop
By now you get it – I hate flip flops. But I still need something to easily throw on when I’m going to the beach or lounging by a pool. Birkenstocks have never let me down – they have so many different shoe styles and colors these days – you’re bound to find something you love. They’re super comfortable and extremely durable. I’m a huge fan of the classic Arizona’s in the color white, but like I said, there’s a bunch of options.
Another shoe I have my eye on is anything from TKEES (besides the flip-flops LOL). They have a decent color range and their leather sandals seem so lightweight and easy to throw in a beach bag.
An all-black sandal for a night out
Ok, so maybe the next night-out in your future isn’t for a while. BUT, when that opportunity presents itself, you can’t go wrong with a strappy black sandal that’s peak 90s minimalism. It will look so cute with any outfit, but you can’t go wrong with an all black ensemble,
A military boot for when your outfit is missing that extra edge
Anyone else feel like Doc Martens are the leather jacket of the shoe world? Add them to any outfit and you instantly feel edgier. I switch out my black pair for the all-white monos in the spring and summer – pair these with a super floral, girly dress and you’ve got a summer LOOK.
Just make sure you break them in before wearing them out and about – your feet will thank you.
