I know I’m not the only one who thought April 2020 had weird energy. This month felt a year long, and I am so. happy. it’s. finally. over. Since I’ve been at home practicing social distancing (like I’m sure many of you have been), I’ve been online shopping left and right. Oops. But, I have been taking better care of myself and developing a super in depth skincare routine that leaves my skin feeling hydrated and clean all day and night, as well as adding more wellness inspired habits into my routine.
I want to get in the habit of posting on this blog more and what better way to start than with monthly favorites? That being said, if there’s any content you’d like to see from me feel free to comment below.
Now let’s get on with my favorites for April 2020:
When Glossier announced they were releasing a hand cream, you know I clicked that add to cart button in the blink of an eye. While I’m not a huge fan of Glossier skincare, their makeup and body products are some of my holy grails. And Glossier You, their signature scent, is one of my favorite affordable everyday perfumes. So, of course I had to order a hand cream in the matching scent. The cream comes in a super modern, sleek little rubber(?) rectangle that’s easy to squeeze and grip in the palm of your hand. One gripe, though, is that this packaging is not refillable. C’mon Glossier. It’s 2020. Anywaaaaays, as you would expect, the cream smells incredible – like Glossier You turned up to a 10. And it’s extremely moisturizing, due to ingredients like meadowfoam seed oil and coconut fruit extract. It stays on the hands without feeling greasy and the scent seriously lasts all day. I also love that they donated hand creams to healthcare heroes!
THIS THING. OMG. I don’t even know how to describe this device except that it might be magic. That’s all. I was searching for a personal humidifier and somehow came across this magic wand. It’s basically a spray bottle for your face, but the difference is it creates this super fine ultrasonic mist of water. It gently mists your face and keeps it hydrated. I filled mine with my favorite rosewater mist and it feels SO GOOD. I literally hold this in front of my face for a full minute, just misting all over. It’s like a mini facial for your skin. Just try it!!!
If you haven’t heard, it takes over 20,000 liters of water to produce 1 kilogram of water. I have been using cotton balls, rounds, etc. nearly all my life for beauty and skincare purposes. Thinking about how wasteful these single use products are made me want to choose a sustainable alternative. Recently I’ve seen a lot of hype about reusable cotton rounds so I wanted to see what the fuss was all about! I bought these bamboo cotton rounds about a month and a half ago and haven’t purchased cotton balls since! They are washable and come with a little mesh bag to store them all in, and you can just toss them in with your regular load of laundry. I haven’t had any issues with them so far and I’m happy using them.
If you haven’t seen the Holifrog brand you might be living under a rock. I’ve been debating which one of their cleansers to try but I ended up going with the AHA version. Described as “It’s your best skin-clearing serum, but in cleanser form,” this cleanser has lactic, glycolic, mandelic, citric, AND tartaric acid in it. It’s the PERFECT cleanser to use after a sweaty workout because it really gets into your pores. It feels luxurious and your skin doesn’t feel stripped after using.
This is my favorite, like every month… but for good reason! This essence from Hanskin is the perfect no-nonsense essence for someone looking to get into essences and up the hydration in their skin. The packaging is perfect too, because it dispenses just the right amount of essence to use. Pro tip: Apply this to wet skin (right after toning!) for super hydrated skin.
The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid serum (and most HA serums to be honest) is too sticky for me. I still wanted to get the benefits of HA in a serum so I decided to add this Marine Hyaluronics to my order…and I was pleasantly surprised. It’s a veeeery thin, water-like serum that I like to use after my essence step for extra hydration. The serum smells….interesting (maybe due to the “skin-friendly marine bacteria and algae”), but it works. I like it way better than HA.
I’ve been working out more at home because it gives me something to do and helps me stay active instead of sitting in my bed. Ok, so I still sit in my bed, but for at least an hour a day I’m sweatin’ and stretching! These ankle weights KICK my ass but they really take your workout to the next level. They come in a 1.5 and 3 pound version.
Even when you’re home all day it can be hard to remmeber to refill your water. Or in my case, the fridge is just SO FAR AWAY from my bed/couch. This tumbler is not only super cute, but it holds 24oz of water. And the straw makes it easier to drink more water.
I haven’t had any nail polish on since staying home, but I am trying to keep my hands and nails moisturized. This cuticle oil comes in a tube with a brush, so you can easily just brush it over your cuticles, mess-free. Bonus points if you keep it by your bedside.
I can never pick between coffee and tea, so I have both every day. Coffee in the morning and a nice iced matcha in the afternoon. I purchased a matcha set (bowl, whisk, spoon and whisk stand) from Etsy and I love it! Preparing matcha in a more traditional way is a nice little ritual to pick up during the day. Plus it definitely tastes better this way, even if it’s a placebo 😉
I’m borderline anemic with an iron deficiency and I also have been told to take Vitamin D supplements. I’m also terrible at remembering to do either of these things. The Done app is a habit-tracking app with a simple interface where you can input tasks and check them off every day. The free version allows you to only have 3 tasks, but I kind of like that – my 3 tasks are workout, take vitamin d, and take iron.
And those are my favorites for April 2020! What products have you been loving this month? Leave me a comment below with your must-haves.
